‘Atomic Blonde, Tank Girl, Mad Max…’: The Female Fandom for Action Movies Share Their Favorite Woman-Led Films

Are you a woman in the action movie fandom in need of a good female-empowering flick? Your fellow females in the fandom got your back on Reddit. I mean, leave the action to the men? I don't think so! Don't get us wrong. We love all the Spidermen, the ever-brooding Batman, the courages and crazy John Wick, and all those other terrifying yet hot men in the action film world. But we also need women. It's called equality. If you're thinking, "you're right, there aren't a lot of female-centric action films!" WRONG. There are many! They just don't tend to get the same amount of love (and funding for advertising) as the already-popular male-based ones. So let us direct you towards this continuously-growing list on Reddit of women-centric or female-led action films that rock SO hard! Feel that female-empowerment while getting a kick of drama and a blast of action! Female aggression is a very real thing.

The movie came out when I was 10 and I was obsessed with the main character, I thought she was so pretty and strong and cool, I used to dress like her and wear my hair like her and all my friends would be like "wow you look like Katniss" and it was such a big praise for me lol

    Sr4f 3 days ago · edited 3 days ago There is a fantastic series that came out a month ago on Netflix, called Blue Eye Samurai. The characters all feel fleshed-out, and include women from very different walks of life. The creators have cited Kill Bill as one of the storie's major inspiration, as well. It's animation, mind you, but very adult- themed, and drop-dead gorgeous. Literally drop-dead gorgeous - a lot of people get murdered in a lot of visually- stunning scenes.

    MelancholicShark 3 days ago Kate on Netflix. It's the story of an assassin trained from childhood who has been poisoned and spends her potential last days on earth trying to find a cure. She ends up befriending the tear away daughter of a man she was hired to kill something like a year or two prior to the events of the film, and they become like sisters.

    I enjoyed it so much that my room is now decorated in the same cyan and magenta LED neon glow lights that the movie uses for its aesthetics. Plus, it was nice to watch a badass female protagonist fight her way through several impossible situations. Guns ablaze and no left to give. She spends a majority of the film covered in blood and not catered towards the male gaze, which is such a nice change.

    The actress who plays her is attractive, but it isn't played up for the sake of men. She's allowed to just exist and be human and be covered in blood and dirt. She feels like a person, not a doll, and there's no love interest either! Great movie, highly recommend.
